During a press conference held at the Mersin Journalists Association, important information was shared regarding the lawsuit filed against Tarsus University in relation to a associate announcement made by the university’s Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences, Department of Aviation Management, on 12 May 2023. The position required candidates to have "an associate professorship in the field of Management and Strategy" and "having scientific publications in aviation management."
In her statement, Dr. Fatma Yeşilkuş said:
"A candidate with close ties to the Rectorate of Tarsus Universit and a member of our association, applied for this position. Another candidate, in an attempt to meet the aviation management criteria, hastily produced 1.5 publications. By making false claims, this candidate inflated their points and secured the position. However, despite this, the candidate still could not surpass the total score of our member, falling short by 357.95 points, both quantitatively and qualitatively. In order to appoint such an unqualified candidate, former Rector of Tarsus University, Prof. Orhan Aydın, orchestrated a jury of three members from his close friendship, based on personal connections. What’s more troubling is that none of these jury members have any academic publications in the field of aviation management. Even worse, two jury members, who have been proven to be friends for at least 23 years, submitted their reports late. Although the former Rector Orhan Aydın should have appointed a new jury, he accepted these late reports. Furthermore, one jury member copied the document reference number belonging to another jury member in the 'Reference' section of their report during the copy-paste process. Our member and our lawyers, suspicious of the situation, had the signatures on the reports examined, revealing that they were fabricated using montage and other fraudulent methods. Unfortunately, numerous other irregularities are present in our case file as well."
She also added, "Tarsus University is a public institution. You cannot tarnish the state with such fraudulent practices. The Republic of Türkiye is greater than you, and we have full faith that our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our Minister of Justice, and our Minister of the Interior will swiftly take the necessary action."
Lawyer Mert Keleşoğlu stated that both he and the people of Tarsus fought hard for the establishment of an university in Tarsus, but after its founding, the administration of Tarsus University has distanced itself from the public and engaged in actions disconnected from the community. He also pointed out numerous other administrative irregularities in this specific case.
Lawyer Mustafa Kemal Çiçek, the voluntary attorney for this case, stated that this lawsuit would set a precedent for all of Türkiye, and that he would follow the case closely until the end, doing everything in his power to put an end to academic incompetence.
